The City Secretary is responsible for the preparation, safeguarding, and access of official records and documents for the City of Dayton, and to conduct the annual City elections.
Other responsibilities include assisting the City Council in fulfilling its duties and responsibilities, posting and management of minutes of all official meetings, and processing public information requests. The City Secretary serves as the Chief Election Official and Early Voting Clerk for the City of Dayton.
Elections and Voting
The City of Dayton General Election is held on the 1st Saturday in May of each year. In each even-numbered year, three council members shall be elected, and in each odd-numbered year, two council members and a mayor shall be elected. These positions are all elected at-large.
The City’s 2021 General Election will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Dayton Community Center located at 801 South Cleveland Street. Filing for a place on the ballot is set by state statute and takes place from January 13 – February 12, 2021. Positions up for election are the Mayor, Council Member Position 4, and Council Member Position 5. Early Voting dates, for the 2021 General Election, will be April 19 - 23, 2021, and April 26 - 27, 2021.
Candidate Packets can be picked up at the Dayton City Hall, located at 117 Cook Street, in the utility billing office.
